The MAX31725MTA+ is a digital local temperature sensor from Analog Devices that measures its own die temperature and reports it over an I²C interface. It resolves temperature to 15 bits and delivers a typical accuracy of ±0.5°C across the full operating range of -55°C to 150°C. That range covers everything from cold-start avionics to hot-side industrial enclosures, so it is a natural fit for thermal management in base stations, power supplies, and automotive engine-bay monitoring where the ambient can spike well past 105°C.
Accuracy and the ±0.5°C claim
The ±0.5°C figure is the highest accuracy grade; the lowest is ±0.7°C. Outside that window the sensor still operates but the error may drift toward the ±0.7°C limit. For a thermal-shutdown threshold or a fan-control loop, ±0.5°C is tight enough to avoid nuisance trips while keeping the margin slim.
Built-in features: One-Shot, Output Switch, Shutdown Mode
The One-Shot command lets the host take a single temperature reading then put the part back into shutdown, cutting average current in battery-powered or duty-cycled designs. The Output Switch can be configured as a comparator or event-triggered alarm — it pulls low when the temperature crosses a programmable threshold, so it can drive a fault LED or an interrupt pin directly. Shutdown Mode drops the supply current to near-zero between reads.
Package and storage
The part comes in an 8-TDFN package measuring 3 mm by 3 mm (supplier device package 8-TDFN 3x3) with an exposed pad for thermal coupling to the PCB. It ships in a Tube. Store the reels dry; the TDFN package is moisture-sensitive and needs a dry cabinet or a bake before reflow if the seal is broken.
