RS-232 transceiver for industrial serial links
It handles point-to-point or multi-drop serial communication at data rates up to 250 kbps over the standard 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply rail. The 500 mV of receiver hysteresis filters line noise on longer cable runs, which matters when the serial link leaves the backplane and enters a factory-floor harness.
The full-duplex architecture means the transmitter and receiver paths run independently, so a terminal server or PLC serial port can send and receive simultaneously without bus-turnaround dead cycles.
