Product details

24-SOIC RS-232 transceiver with 4/3 channel count

The MAX206CWG+T is a full-duplex RS-232 transceiver from Analog Devices, packing four drivers and three receivers into a 24-SOIC (0.295", 7.50 mm width) surface-mount package.

What the 500 mV receiver hysteresis buys you

Receiver hysteresis is specified at 500 mV — this is the dead band between the switching thresholds. On a noisy RS-232 line running through a factory floor or a long cable run, that 500 mV gap prevents the receiver from chattering on noise edges that would punch through a lower-hysteresis part. The commercial temperature range (0°C to 70°C) limits this part to indoor, controlled-environment equipment — think bench-top instruments, server-room serial concentrators, or lab data-acquisition front-ends. Not rated for the -40°C end of an outdoor telecom cabinet.
