What the MAX1619MEE+T does on the bus
The MAX1619MEE+T is a digital temperature sensor that monitors both its own die temperature and an external diode-connected transistor over an SMBus interface. The 7-bit resolution delivers temperature readings in steps of about 0.5°C — fine enough for thermal management in a server blade or a power-supply board, where catching a 5°C drift matters more than sub-degree precision.
Accuracy and test conditions
That ±3.5°C worst-case figure is the one to budget for — if the system needs to trigger a fan at 85°C, the actual trip point could land anywhere from 81.5°C to 88.5°C. For a thermal-throttle application, that margin is acceptable; for a precision oven, it is not.
Housed in a 16-pin SSOP (3.90 mm body width, 0.154-inch pitch) with a 16-QSOP supplier package alternative. For production, the Tape & Reel packaging (also available as Cut Tape) feeds into a standard pick-and-place; the QSOP footprint is a drop-in match for the SSOP land pattern.
Power-saving and output features
The part includes a One-Shot mode for on-demand temperature reads without continuous conversion, an Output Switch that can drive a fan or alert line, and a Standby Mode that drops the quiescent current. These three features let the system architect trade off update rate against power budget — poll the sensor once per second in standby, then wake it for a full conversion only when the bus is idle.
