At 12 Mbps the MAX1486EUB+T can sustain full-duplex throughput on short cable runs without bit errors. On longer runs the practical data rate drops, but the 70 mV hysteresis keeps the receiver from toggling on reflections or common-mode noise.
That means it is a stable line item for a BOM freeze: no forced redesign from an EOL pull.
