Supply voltage and inrush control
The LTC1422IS8#TRPBF operates from a 2.7 V to 12 V supply rail, covering common backplane voltages from 3.3 V to 12 V. The 650 µA supply current is the controller's own draw — the pass FET's gate drive comes from the supply, so the total load current is set by the external N-channel MOSFET. With programmable slew rate, fault timeout, and circuit breaker thresholds, this controller ramps the output voltage to prevent inrush current glitches on insertion. The UVLO feature holds the FET off until the input rail is stable, avoiding partial turn-on during a brownout.
Package and board-fit for the reeled variant
Housed in an 8-lead SOIC (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm), the LTC1422IS8#TRPBF uses the standard 8-SO footprint. The Tape & Reel (TR) packaging suits automated pick-and-place; the Cut Tape (CT) option is also available for prototyping.
External FET architecture — what that means for the BOM
Because the LTC1422 does not integrate the power switch (Internal Switch(s): No), the pass FET is a separate BOM line. This gives flexibility to choose an N-channel MOSFET rated for the actual load current and package thermal impedance, but it also adds a sourcing point. The controller itself handles the gate drive and fault monitoring.
