The LTC1292BIN8 is a complete 12-bit data acquisition system in an 8-pin PDIP package — the ADC, reference, and serial/parallel interface live on one die, so the only external parts needed are a 5V supply and a few decoupling caps. Sampling at 60k samples per second, the 12-bit resolution gives you 4096 codes across the input range — enough for most industrial sensor readouts (pressure transducers, thermocouple linearization, load cells) where the noise floor sits above the 2.44 mV LSB at a 5V reference. Two input channels let you multiplex either differential pairs or two single-ended signals, though the 60kSPS rate is shared across channels — switching between them costs one conversion cycle for the input to settle.
Through-hole footprint and temperature grade
The 8-DIP body (0.300-inch row spacing, 7.62 mm) is a breadboard-friendly footprint — sockets are standard, and the 100-mil pin pitch makes hand-prototyping or rework trivial compared to a QFN or TSSOP. Single 5V supply means you don't need a negative rail or a separate analog supply — the internal charge pump handles the negative-side reference, so a clean 5V rail and a 0.1 µF bypass at each supply pin is the whole power budget.
This is a current-production part, not a legacy holdover.
