42V input — where it fits and where it doesn't
The 42V maximum input covers 24V industrial rails with margin, 12V automotive systems with load-dump transients, and lightly regulated 48V telecom supplies if you stay under the ceiling. The 3.4V minimum input means it can run from a 5V rail or a 3-cell Li-Ion pack.
Switching frequency — inductor size vs efficiency
The switching frequency spans 200kHz to 3MHz.
Package and thermal — the exposed pad is not optional
Solder the pad to a copper plane — the datasheet recommends multiple vias to an inner-layer ground plane. Without that thermal path, the junction temperature rises quickly at 2.5A output. In a sealed enclosure with no airflow, derate the output current or add forced air.
The #PBF suffix indicates lead-free (Pb-free) finish. No known successor or second-source alternate from the manufacturer; the part is sole-sourced from Analog Devices.
