What this 7-bit current DAC actually does
The Maxim Integrated DS4432U+T&R is a 7-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with a current output, not the more common voltage output. Its architecture is a current sink and current source, meaning each of its two DAC channels can either pull current to ground (sink) or push current out (source), depending on the code written over the I2C interface. The output is unbuffered, so the load impedance directly sets the voltage compliance range. This part is designed for trimming and calibration applications where you need to inject or absorb a precise DC current into a node — think laser diode bias, VCO tuning, or sensor offset nulling.
The surface-mount 8-uMAX/uSOP package is suitable for reflow soldering in standard PCB assembly lines.
