The DS1803Z-050+T&R is a dual-channel digital potentiometer from Analog Devices, offering 256 wiper taps per channel on a 50kΩ end-to-end resistance. The linear taper makes it suitable for precision voltage divider or adjustable gain stages where the resistance change is proportional to the tap position, rather than logarithmic for audio volume control. Each channel includes a 400Ω typical wiper resistance, which sets a minimum series resistance even at the zero-scale tap — relevant when the pot is used in a low-impedance feedback network. The ±20% tolerance on the total resistance means the absolute value varies by up to 10kΩ from part to part, but the ratiometric tap accuracy remains consistent for divider applications.
I²C digital control with selectable address
The selectable address feature lets up to two DS1803 devices share the same I²C bus, giving four independent potentiometer channels under separate slave addresses. Memory is volatile, so the wiper position defaults to mid-scale on power-up and must be re-programmed after each reset. The 750ppm/°C temperature coefficient means the resistance drifts by about 37.5Ω over a 50°C swing — negligible for most trimming applications but worth derating in precision references.
