General-purpose digital isolator for industrial signal chains
It provides 1000 Vrms galvanic isolation between two power domains, with a data rate of 25 Mbps and typical rise/fall times of 2 ns. The 4/2 input-side/side-2 split (four inputs on side 1, two on side 2) suits mixed-direction signal isolation in industrial interfaces like SPI, UART, and general-purpose GPIO breakouts.
At 25 Mbps the ADUM7642CRQZ handles fast serial buses like SPI at 20 MHz clock (half-duplex) or 25 Mbps parallel data streams without bit-rate bottleneck. The 50 ns max propagation delay (tPLH/tPHL) and 6 ns pulse-width distortion keep timing skew tight enough for most multi-channel isolators in motor-drive feedback and PLC backplanes. The 15 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the headline spec for inverter-fed environments: in a motor drive with IGBT switching edges exceeding 10 kV/µs, this rating ensures the output does not glitch when the ground plane jumps.
Package and footprint: 20-SSOP / 20-QSOP
No isolated power is generated on-chip — the part needs a separate isolated DC-DC converter for the secondary side if the two ground domains are fully separated. The ROHS3 compliance and MSL level (standard per iCoupler family) mean standard lead-free reflow profiles apply; no special bake is needed if the moisture-barrier bag is intact.
Lifecycle and supply posture
For dual-source planning, the ADUM7643CRQZ (same 6-channel count, 25 Mbps, but with 3/3 input-side/side-2 split) is a functional alternate if the direction assignment can be mirrored. The ADUM7640ARQZ (1 Mbps, 6/0 unidirectional) is a lower-speed drop-in for designs that do not need the 25 Mbps rate. Both are from the same iCoupler series and share the 20-SSOP footprint.
