1000Vrms isolation in a 16-QSOP — what it buys you
The ADUM7441ARQZ-RL7 is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 1000Vrms isolation across a 3V to 5.5V supply range, making it a straight drop-in for splitting ground domains on mixed-voltage boards — think 3.3V MCU talking to a 5V sensor or actuator on the other side. The 1Mbps data rate handles SPI clock lines, UART TX/RX pairs, and general-purpose GPIO isolation without timing pressure; propagation delay is 75ns max each way with 25ns pulse-width distortion. Three channels run from Side 1 to Side 2, one channel runs the opposite direction, which maps cleanly to a typical SPI bus (SCLK, MOSI, CS out, MISO back) or a UART with flow control.
15kV/µs CMTI — the motor-drive spec
That is the number that matters when this isolator sits between a controller and a gate-driver or inverter phase leg — fast voltage swings on the high-side ground will couple through parasitic capacitance, and if the CMTI is too low the output glitches. 15kV/µs is sufficient for most industrial drives and power supplies up to several hundred volts of bus voltage. The 2ns typical rise/fall time keeps edge rates clean enough that signal integrity on the isolated side stays within budget without external schmitt triggers.
Supply flexibility: 3V to 5.5V on both sides
Both isolation sides share the same 3V to 5.5V supply range, so you can run the primary at 3.3V and the secondary at 5V — or match them — without a separate level translator. The 16-QSOP footprint (3.90mm body width) is a space-saver compared to SOIC-16 wide-body isolators, useful when board area is tight.
