Integrated isolation and power in one package
The ADUM6404ARWZ from Analog Devices combines four digital isolation channels with an integrated isolated DC-DC converter (IsoPower technology) in a single 16-SOIC package. The magnetic coupling technology provides 5000Vrms isolation between the input and output sides, with a common-mode transient immunity of 25kV/µs minimum to reject fast transients from switching power stages.
Channel configuration and timing
All four channels are unidirectional and arranged with all inputs on side 1 and all outputs on side 2 (0/4 configuration). This makes the part a natural fit for isolating a 4-bit parallel bus or a single SPI port (SCLK, MOSI, MISO, CS) where the controller sits on the non-isolated side. The 1Mbps data rate covers most industrial serial protocols — RS-485, CAN, UART up to 115200 baud — without margin concerns. Propagation delay is 100ns max in either direction, and pulse-width distortion is held to 40ns max, so the part won't skew a clock or data signal enough to cause setup/hold violations at 1Mbps.
Supply flexibility and temperature range
The ADUM6404ARWZ operates from a 3V to 5.5V supply on both sides, allowing direct interface with 3.3V or 5V logic without level translation. The 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm width) provides the creepage distance needed to maintain 5000Vrms isolation across the PCB.
