What the ADUM5412BRSZ brings to the board
The ADUM5412BRSZ is an ADI iCoupler digital isolator that packs four unidirectional channels and an integrated isolated DC-DC converter into a 24-SSOP package. It is a general-purpose isolation part meant for signal and power transfer across a 2500Vrms isolation barrier, with each channel rated for 150Mbps data rate.
The 150Mbps data rate covers most high-speed serial protocols — SPI, RS-485, CAN FD, and even some LVDS-level links — without introducing jitter or pulse-width distortion beyond 3ns max. Propagation delay is a symmetric 13ns max, which keeps timing closure straightforward for clocked interfaces. The 2500Vrms isolation rating is sufficient for reinforced insulation in many industrial and medical applications; common-mode transient immunity of 75kV/µs ensures the link stays intact during motor switching or ESD events. The 1.7V to 5.5V supply range on both sides means the part can interface directly with 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, or 5V logic without external level shifters.
Package and footprint reality
The isolated DC-DC converter does generate some internal heat — ensure the board has adequate copper pour and thermal vias under the package if running near the maximum load current.
