Product details

What the ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 brings to a galvanic-isolation BOM

The ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 is a 2-channel digital isolator from Analog Devices' IsoPower and iCoupler families. Its distinguishing feature is the integrated, isolated DC-DC converter — it generates a regulated output voltage on the isolated side from a single supply on the input side, eliminating the need for a separate isolated power module or a second transformer. That makes it a space-saving choice for designs where a small 8-SOIC footprint must carry both signal isolation and isolated power for a low-power load on the secondary side. The part provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation using magnetic coupling (iCoupler technology), rated for basic or reinforced insulation depending on the working voltage and system-level creepage/clearance. The two channels are unidirectional, with one input on side 1 and one input on side 2, so it can handle a single signal in each direction — useful for a control signal plus a status feedback line across the isolation barrier. Data rate is 1Mbps, with propagation delay of 70ns max and pulse-width distortion of 3ns max. Common-mode transient immunity is 25kV/µs minimum, which is adequate for motor-drive and industrial environments where fast common-mode voltage swings occur during switching events.

Supply voltage — two ranges, one per side

The ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 has two separate supply-voltage ranges: 2.7V to 4.0V on one side, and 4.5V to 5.5V on the other. This means the part can operate with a 3.3V rail on the input side and a 5V rail on the isolated side, or vice versa, but each side is fixed to its own range. It cannot run both sides at 3.3V — one side must be at 4.5V or higher. That is a key constraint when planning the power tree: the side that needs the higher voltage determines which supply range that side uses. The integrated IsoPower converter draws its input from the side with the 4.5V–5.5V supply range, so the isolated output voltage is derived from that rail. If the design uses 3.3V on both sides, this part will not work — look at the ADuM5240 or ADuM5242 variants that have a single 3.0V–5.5V range across both sides.

Upper limit is 105°C.

Lifecycle and compliance

It is ROHS3 compliant (lead-free, no exemptions). Cut Tape (CT) is also available for prototype quantities.

Frequently asked questions

Can ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 be used in 3.3V systems?

Yes, but only on one side. The supply range is 2.7V to 4.0V on one side and 4.5V to 5.5V on the other. So a 3.3V rail works on the lower-voltage side, but the other side must be at 4.5V or higher to power the integrated IsoPower converter. It cannot run both sides at 3.3V.

What is the difference between ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 and ADUM5241ARZ?

The only difference is the packaging and reel format. ADUM5241ARZ-RL7 is the Tape & Reel version (7-inch reel, 1000 pieces), while ADUM5241ARZ is the standard tube or bulk packaging. The silicon, ratings, and datasheet are identical.
