Four-channel iCoupler isolator for industrial signal isolation
The ADUM3482ARSZ is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built on magnetic coupling technology. The 2/2 input-to-output channel split (two channels on side 1, two on side 2) matches the common pattern of two control outputs and two feedback inputs in a motor-drive or PLC I/O module.
1 Mbps with 90 ns propagation delay — timing budget for isolated links
At 1 Mbps, the 90 ns max propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) and 6 ns max pulse-width distortion keep the timing margin tight but workable for most 1 MHz SPI clocks and UART bit rates up to 115.2 kbaud. The 2.5 ns typical rise/fall time limits edge-rate ringing on short PCB traces. If your design needs 10 Mbps or higher, step to the ADUM3482BRSZ variant (25 Mbps) — same pinout, same package, same 3750 Vrms isolation.
3750 Vrms isolation and 25 kV/µs CMTI — noise immunity in motor drives and inverters
The 3750 Vrms isolation rating satisfies basic reinforced insulation for 300 Vrms working voltage per IEC 60747-5-5, suitable for medical equipment (BF-rated patient connections) and industrial drives. The 25 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity ensures data doesn't glitch when a motor drive switches a 600 V DC bus at 20 kHz — a common failure point in optocoupler-based designs.
Each side of the isolator has its own supply pin, allowing a 3.3 V controller side and a 5 V sensor side (or 1.8 V low-power side). This split-rail capability eliminates level-shifter ICs when bridging a 1.8 V MCU to a 5 V peripheral.
