Active iCoupler with 10Mbps and 2500Vrms isolation
The ADUM3201BRZ-RL7 is a 2-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from ADI's iCoupler series, using magnetic coupling to transfer digital signals across a 2500Vrms isolation barrier. It supports data rates up to 10Mbps with 50ns propagation delay and 3ns pulse-width distortion, making it suitable for isolating slower serial interfaces like SPI, UART, and I2C in industrial and power-conversion systems.
At 10Mbps, this isolator is a fit for control and configuration links rather than high-throughput data streams. It handles SPI at 10MHz clock, UART up to 1.25MBaud, and I2C at 400kHz or 1MHz with margin. For applications needing 25Mbps or faster (e.g., parallel ADC interfaces, high-speed CAN FD), the ADUM3200CRZ-RL7 or ADUM3211TRZ-EP-RL7 are the faster siblings in the same iCoupler family.
25kV/µs CMTI — transient immunity for motor drives and inverters
The 25kV/µs common-mode transient immunity is the key parameter for designs where the isolation barrier sees fast voltage swings — motor-drive phases, inverter switching nodes, or solar microinverters. This rating means the output stays valid when the ground reference jumps at 25kV/µs, which is typical for IGBT and SiC switching edges. If your system has higher dV/dt (e.g., GaN at 100V/ns), you need a part with higher CMTI; for most IGBT-based drives, 25kV/µs is sufficient.
Supply range and 3.3V compatibility
For a 3.3V system, the isolator runs directly from the 3.3V rail without a separate regulator. The unidirectional channel configuration (1 input on side 1, 1 input on side 2) means you get one channel in each direction — enough for a single TX/RX pair or a control signal plus a status feedback line.
Package and footprint
Housed in an 8-pin SOIC with 3.90mm body width (the narrow SOIC-8 footprint), the ADUM3201BRZ-RL7 is a drop-in for standard SOIC-8 land patterns. The same die is also available in Cut Tape (CT) for prototype quantities.
