Two-channel isolation for industrial signal paths
The Analog Devices ADUM3201ARZ is a 2-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from the iCoupler family, built around magnetic coupling technology.
1 Mbps data rate and 150 ns propagation — budget for timing margin
The 1 Mbps data rate and 150 ns max propagation delay define the throughput ceiling for isolated data paths. For a 1 MHz SPI clock, each bit period is 1 µs — 150 ns of isolation delay consumes 15% of the bit window, leaving 850 ns for the driver, receiver, and trace delay. The 10 ns rise/fall time is fast enough to keep edge-rate distortion low, but the 40 ns max pulse-width distortion means the duty cycle can shift by up to 4% at 1 Mbps, which matters for PWM isolation or clock recovery circuits.
25 kV/µs CMTI — keeps data clean in noisy environments
A common-mode transient immunity of 25 kV/µs means the ADUM3201ARZ rejects fast voltage slewing across the isolation barrier — the kind found in motor-drive inverter stages, switched-mode power supplies, or industrial drives with IGBT switching edges. Below that slew rate, the output stays valid; above it, the part may glitch. In a 600 V motor drive with 100 ns rise times, the dV/dt across the barrier can exceed 6 kV/µs, well within the 25 kV/µs margin.
Active lifecycle, ROHS3 compliant
For dual-sourcing flexibility, the ADUM3200WARZ is a functional peer with the same 1 Mbps data rate and 2500 Vrms isolation but automotive qualification and a 2/0 input direction configuration.
