Isolation barrier and signal integrity
The ADUM241E1BRWZ-RL is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from the iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It provides 5000Vrms of galvanic isolation across a 16-SOIC package, with a 3/1 channel split (three inputs on side 1, one on side 2). This part is designed for general-purpose isolation tasks where high data throughput and robust transient immunity are required. Data rate hits 150Mbps with a typical rise/fall time of 2.5ns and a maximum propagation delay of 13ns in either direction. Pulse-width distortion is held to 3ns max, which keeps the duty cycle distortion low enough for high-speed serial links like SPI or RS-485 isolation. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at a minimum 75kV/µs. That figure matters when the isolator sits between a motor-drive power stage and a controller — fast voltage swings on the high-voltage side won't glitch the data crossing the barrier.
Supply flexibility and temperature grade
The ADUM241E1BRWZ-RL operates from a 1.7V to 5.5V supply on both sides, so it can bridge 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, or 5V logic domains without a separate level translator. The wide range also simplifies power rail design when the isolated side runs from a loosely regulated supply. The 125°C upper limit keeps timing margins intact in a hot enclosure near a motor or power supply. No isolated power is generated on-chip — the ADUM241E1BRWZ-RL is a signal isolator only. Each side needs its own local supply rail; an external DC-DC or isolated module handles the power-side isolation.
Lifecycle and compliance
ROHS3 compliant per, with no known PCN or obsolescence risk at this time.
Package and layout considerations
Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body (7.50mm width) package, the part is surface-mount with a standard SOIC footprint. The wide-body package provides the creepage distance needed to sustain the 5000Vrms isolation rating across the PCB. No exposed thermal pad — dissipation is through the leads and the board copper.
