5000Vrms isolation in a 16-SOIC — what it buys you
The ADUM2400ARIZ is a four-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built with magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 5000Vrms isolation in a wide-body 16-SOIC package — enough to meet reinforced isolation requirements for medical equipment, industrial motor drives, and grid-tied power converters. The 1Mbps data rate handles UART, SPI (at lower clock rates), and general-purpose logic-level isolation.
Supply range and logic compatibility
Both sides operate from 2.7V to 5.5V, so you can directly interface a 3.3V microcontroller on one side and a 5V sensor or actuator on the other without an external level translator. The unidirectional channel arrangement — all four inputs on side 1, all outputs on side 2 — is straightforward for isolating a single-direction data bus.
Propagation delay and transient immunity
Maximum propagation delay is 100ns in both directions, with pulse-width distortion held to 40ns max. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 25kV/µs minimum — that matters in noisy industrial environments where fast voltage transients on the isolation barrier can otherwise corrupt data. Rise and fall times are 2.5ns typical, keeping edges clean for the 1Mbps data rate.
Temperature range and rework considerations
The wide-body SOIC-16 is a rework-friendly package — visible leads, easy to inspect solder joints, and no hidden thermal pad that needs a via stitch. Will it survive the hot air? Yes — the plastic body is standard MSL 3, so just bake it if the moisture-barrier bag has been open past the floor-life window.
