I²C bus isolator with 5000Vrms rating
The Analog Devices ADUM2251ARWZ is a two-channel I²C digital isolator from the iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It provides 5000Vrms isolation between the bus sides, with one bidirectional channel (SCL/SDA) and one unidirectional channel, supporting data rates up to 1Mbps. The supply range spans 3V to 5.5V on each side, making it compatible with both 3.3V and 5V I²C buses without level translation.
Industrial temperature and package fit
The 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm width) provides the creepage distance needed for the 5000Vrms rating. Surface-mount assembly with standard SOIC-16 footprint.
Common-mode transient immunity and pulse width distortion
With a minimum common-mode transient immunity of 25kV/µs, the isolator maintains data integrity in noisy switching environments — relevant when the bus runs near motor drives or SMPS stages. Pulse width distortion is specified at 145ns (bidirectional channel) and 85ns (unidirectional channel), which sets the timing margin for the I²C clock stretching and arbitration logic.
For production BOMs this means no forced redesign horizon from obsolescence, though I²C isolator demand has been steady through the cycle — allocation risk is low but not zero if your volume spikes.
