Two-channel isolation with 5000 Vrms — where it fits
The ADUM221N1BRWZ is a 2-channel digital isolator from the iCoupler family, using magnetic coupling to pass signals across a 5000 Vrms isolation barrier. It is a general-purpose part meant for applications where galvanic isolation is mandatory: industrial fieldbus interfaces, motor-drive feedback paths, medical patient-contact circuits, and isolated SPI or UART links. The unidirectional channel configuration — one input on side 1, one on side 2 — suits simple data-flow separation, not bidirectional buses.
150 Mbps and 75 kV/µs CMTI — the margin numbers
Rated at 150 Mbps, this part handles fast serial links like SPI at 50 MHz clock rates or UART at several Mbps without timing pressure. Propagation delay is 13 ns max in both directions, and pulse-width distortion stays under 3 ns — tight enough for most isolated data paths. The 75 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity is the spec that matters in noisy environments: motor drives, inverters, and switch-mode power supplies generate fast voltage transients across the barrier. A part with lower CMTI will glitch or latch in those conditions; this one holds the data line clean.
Lifecycle and supply position
ADI lists the ADUM221N1BRWZ as an active product with ROHS3 compliance.
