Four-channel iCoupler for signal isolation without the opto headaches
The ADUM1442ARQZ-RL7 is a 4-channel digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, using magnetic coupling to pass signals across a 2500Vrms isolation barrier. It gives you two channels going each way — 2 inputs on side 1, 2 on side 2 — so a full-duplex SPI or a pair of UART signals fit without extra parts. Data rate is 2Mbps, which covers most industrial comms like RS-485 or CAN transceiver isolation. Propagation delay maxes at 180 ns each way, predictable and consistent, unlike the aging drift you get with optocouplers. Supply range is 2.25V to 3.6V, so it plays nice with 3.3V and 2.5V logic domains. Common-mode transient immunity is a minimum 25kV/µs — that is the spec that matters when you drop it into a motor drive or an inverter where the ground bounces hard.
Temperature range and package — field-swap friendly
The 16-QSOP package (3.90mm wide) is small enough for tight boards but still hand-solderable with a fine tip and some patience — no hot-air station required if you are careful. Surface-mount only, so plan for the reflow profile. ROHS3 compliant, no lead concerns for EU shipments.
Lifecycle — no end-of-line panic
ADI lists the ADUM1442ARQZ-RL7 as Active. The iCoupler platform has been around for years, so second-sourcing is straightforward if you need to dual-source.
