Four channels, all one direction — where it fits
The ADUM1400BRWZ is a 4-channel digital isolator from the iCoupler family using magnetic coupling. All four channels run in the same direction (Side 1 to Side 2), so it is a straight drop-in for isolating a 4-bit parallel bus, SPI signals (SCLK, MOSI, MISO, CS), or a set of GPIO lines where the data flow is one-way. The 10 Mbps data rate handles most industrial fieldbus and sensor interfaces comfortably — the 50 ns propagation delay per edge keeps timing margin on a 10 MHz SPI clock without needing a faster (and pricier) isolator.
2500 Vrms isolation — what it buys you
Rated at 2500 Vrms for one minute, this part provides basic isolation for equipment connected to the same ground reference but needing protection against ground loops, transient spikes, or fault conditions. It is not a reinforced-isolation part for mains-connected medical or grid-tied power supplies (those typically need 5000 Vrms or higher). Where it fits: isolating the control-side MCU from a motor-drive gate driver, separating the sensor interface in a PLC input module, or breaking a ground loop between two boards sharing a backplane. The 25 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity means it holds up in noisy switching environments — a VFD or inverter bus with fast IGBT edges will not glitch the data.
The wide-body SOIC-16 package (7.50 mm body width) gives the creepage distance needed for the 2500 Vrms rating; standard SOIC-8 or SOIC-16 narrow-body parts cannot match the isolation voltage.
