2.415 GHz PLL synthesizer for RF and base station clock trees
The AD9542BCPZ-REEL7 is a dual-PLL clock synthesizer from Analog Devices that generates output frequencies up to 2.415 GHz. It accepts a wide range of input types — CMOS, differential or single-ended, LVDS, LVPECL — and delivers outputs in CML, CMOS, HCSL, LVDS, or single-ended formats. This makes it a fit for RF LO generation, high-speed data converter clocks, and base station timing where a clean, programmable frequency source is required. The part integrates two PLL cores with independent dividers and multipliers, allowing simultaneous generation of multiple related frequencies from a single reference. The 4:5 input-to-output ratio gives flexibility in fan-out and redundancy switching.
Supply rails and temperature envelope
The device operates from two supply domains: a core rail of 1.71V to 1.89V and an I/O rail spanning 1.71V to 3.465V. This split-rail architecture lets the core run at low voltage for power efficiency while the output drivers interface with 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V logic families without level shifters. The 48-LFCSP (7x7) package with exposed pad requires a thermal land pattern on the PCB to dissipate heat from the PLL charge pumps and output drivers.
