Enhanced-product JFET amp for wide-temperature signal chains
The AD8220TRMZ-EP-R7 is a single JFET-input operational amplifier from Analog Devices, part of the EP (Enhanced Product) family qualified across the full -55°C to 125°C military temperature range. It delivers a 1.5 MHz -3 dB bandwidth with a 2 V/µs slew rate, rail-to-rail output swing, and draws just 750 µA supply current — a combination that suits precision sensor conditioning where the signal bandwidth stays under a few hundred kilohertz and the supply rail is tight. The supply span runs from 4.5 V to 36 V single or dual supply, giving the designer headroom to run off a standard 5 V rail or a 24 V industrial bus without a secondary regulator.
What the speed and output ratings mean for the BOM
At 1.5 MHz bandwidth and 2 V/µs slew rate, this amplifier settles a 10 V step in about 5 µs — fast enough for multiplexed ADC front-ends scanning at 100 kSPS, but not a high-speed video driver. The rail-to-rail output stage swings within 50 mV of each rail at light loads, preserving dynamic range in a single-supply 5 V system. The 750 µA quiescent current keeps self-heating low in the 8-MSOP package; at 125°C ambient the junction rise from quiescent dissipation is under 5°C, so the thermal derating curve stays flat across the operating range.
Package, footprint, and reel format
Housed in an 8-MSOP (3.00 mm × 3.00 mm body, 0.65 mm pitch), the AD8220TRMZ-EP-R7 shares the same land pattern as the standard 8-TSSOP — the MSOP is slightly narrower, so the PCB footprint is interchangeable if the solder-paste stencil aperture is adjusted for the smaller pad width. Supplied on tape and reel (7-inch reel, 3000 pieces per reel) or cut tape for prototype builds — the R7 suffix indicates the 7-inch reel quantity.
