Current monitor with ±0.25% accuracy across temperature
The AD8211YRJZ-R2 is a dedicated current monitor from Analog Devices that outputs a voltage proportional to the current flowing through an external shunt resistor. For a 10 mΩ shunt measuring 5 A, that translates to a 12.5 µV uncertainty at the output, which keeps the measurement within tolerance for most motor-drive and solenoid-monitoring loops without a separate calibration step. The input common-mode range spans -2 V to 65 V, which lets it sit on either side of the shunt. On the high side, it reads the voltage drop above the load — useful when the load ground is noisy or tied to chassis. On the low side, it monitors return current directly.
SOT-23-5 footprint and board integration
Housed in a 5-lead SOT-23 (SC-74A) package, the AD8211YRJZ-R2 fits the same land pattern as a generic SOT-23-5 op-amp. The pinout is straightforward: supply, ground, input, output, and a reference pin. No external level-shifting or gain-setting resistors are needed — the output is a ground-referenced voltage that scales linearly with the shunt drop. The small footprint leaves room on the board for the shunt and a bypass cap, which should sit within 5 mm of the supply pin to keep the sense path clean. The surface-mount package is compatible with standard reflow profiles. The part is rated for the full industrial temperature range, so it holds its accuracy in an unventilated enclosure near a power stage or a solenoid bank.
For prototyping, a Cut Tape quantity is sufficient; for production, the reel format feeds into a pick-and-place without a reel change.
