30 ns reverse recovery — why it matters for the switching stage
The ES2B-E3/5BT: The ES2B-/5BT: The ES2B-/5BT is a Vishay general-purpose fast recovery rectifier rated 100 V reverse and 2 A average forward current. Its 30 ns reverse recovery time (trr) places it in the class of rectifiers that can follow a 50–100 kHz switching edge without the stored-charge tail that heats up a standard recovery diode. The 900 mV forward drop at 2 A is typical for a fast-recovery part in this voltage class — the conduction loss at full load is 1.8 W, which the DO-214AA (SMB) package can dissipate with a reasonable copper footprint on the PCB.
Package and thermal: DO-214AA (SMB) layout notes
The DO-214AA (SMB) footprint is a standard surface-mount package with the cathode tab on the top side. The 18 pF capacitance at 4 V reverse bias is low enough to not load a high-frequency switching node.
