Photovoltaic output for isolated gate drive
The Toshiba TLP3906(TPL,E is a single-channel photovoltaic-output optocoupler in a 6-SOP surface-mount package. It provides 3750Vrms galvanic isolation between a DC input LED and a photovoltaic output that can deliver up to 7V open-circuit and 12µA per channel. The 200µs turn-on and 300µs turn-off times suit it for DC-level isolation, floating gate-drive bias, or relay-coil drive where switching speed is secondary to isolation integrity.
The 3750Vrms isolation rating is the reinforced-safety-class figure for this optocoupler. It qualifies the TLP3906 for use in industrial power supplies, motor-drive feedback paths, and isolated sensor interfaces where the primary-to-secondary barrier must survive mains transients. The 1.65V typical forward voltage on the input LED means it can be driven directly from a 3.3V or 5V logic rail through a series resistor, keeping the BOM simple.
Temperature range and industrial deployment
The 30 mA maximum forward current on the LED gives headroom for derating in high-ambient designs.
