One-channel DC optocoupler with 5000 Vrms isolation
The Toshiba TLP385(GR-TPR,E is a single-channel transistor-output optocoupler designed for general-purpose galvanic isolation in industrial, power-supply, and signal-interface applications. It accepts a DC input on the LED side and delivers a switched transistor output on the detector side, with a reinforced 5000 Vrms isolation barrier between the two domains. The GR binning in the order code specifies a current transfer ratio (CTR) of 100% minimum and 300% maximum at a forward current of 5 mA, which provides a well-defined gain window for the designer to budget LED drive current across temperature and device lifetime. The output transistor can switch up to 80 V and sink 50 mA continuous, with a saturation voltage of 300 mV maximum — sufficient for driving logic inputs, small relays, or DC loads in a 5 V or 3.3 V system.
Switching speed — what the 2 µs rise / 3 µs fall means
It will handle 10–100 kHz PWM signals, slow serial data (a few kbps), or relay-coil drive without issue. For applications requiring faster edge rates — such as CAN, RS-485, or high-speed digital isolators — a dedicated digital isolator or high-speed optocoupler would be the better fit.
Package and temperature range
Housed in a 4-lead SO-6 surface-mount package (6-SOIC with 0.173" body width, 4.40 mm), the TLP385(GR-TPR,E occupies a compact footprint suitable for dense PCB layouts. Cut Tape (CT) options are also available for prototype or low-volume builds.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is RoHS compliant, which simplifies procurement for designs targeting EU or other regulated markets.
