The TLP385(E delivers 5000 Vrms isolation in a 4-lead SO-6 package — a reinforced-grade rating that meets IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1 clearance requirements for mains-isolated power supplies and PLC digital inputs. Current transfer ratio spans 50% to 600% at 5 mA forward current, a 12:1 spread that forces the designer to verify worst-case output current at the minimum CTR corner, especially when driving a logic gate or a low-power relay.
Switching speed and output drive
Rise and fall times are 2 µs and 3 µs typical, with turn-on and turn-off both at 3 µs typical — fast enough for 100 kHz isolated data links or IGBT gate-drive fault feedback, but not for high-speed digital isolation above 1 Mbps. Output transistor is rated for 80 V collector-emitter and 50 mA continuous current, with a 300 mV max saturation voltage at the rated forward current — adequate for driving a 5 V or 24 V PLC input stage without an external buffer.
Temperature range and production status
Operating temperature from -55°C to 110°C covers industrial and outdoor telecom enclosures where ambient can reach 85°C with self-heating margin; the 110°C ceiling is above the typical 105°C limit of many standard optocouplers.
