5000Vrms isolation in a 4-lead SO package
The Toshiba TLP385(BLL-TPL,E is a 1-channel transistor optocoupler with a DC input and a phototransistor output, housed in a 6-SOIC package that uses only 4 leads. The 5000Vrms isolation rating suits it for galvanic isolation in power supplies, motor drives, and industrial interface circuits where the primary-to-secondary barrier must withstand high potential differences. The current transfer ratio is specified between 200% and 400% at a 5mA forward current, giving the designer a predictable gain window for driving logic inputs or low-current loads.
Temperature range and output drive
The output transistor can handle up to 80V and 50mA per channel, which is enough to switch a small relay, a PLC input, or a MOSFET gate through a pull-up resistor. Typical turn-on and turn-off times are both 3µs, with rise and fall times of 2µs and 3µs respectively — fast enough for 100 kHz switching or for debouncing isolated signals.
RoHS compliance is confirmed, which simplifies the BOM for EU-market equipment and avoids a separate waiver process.
