Gate-drive optocoupler for IGBT and MOSFET switching
The Toshiba TLP352F(TP4,F) is a single-channel optical coupling gate driver in an 8-SMD Gull Wing package, designed to drive IGBTs and power MOSFETs in inverter, motor-drive, and power-supply stages. It provides 3750Vrms isolation between the logic input and the high-voltage output side, with a peak output current of 2.5A to handle gate charge during fast switching.
The 200ns max propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) is symmetrical within 50ns pulse-width distortion, which keeps the gate drive timing balanced between turn-on and turn-off. For dead-time management in half-bridge topologies, this symmetry reduces the margin you need to reserve, directly affecting the achievable switching frequency. The 20kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) means the output stays clean when the high-side reference jumps at dv/dt rates typical of fast-switching SiC or IGBT bridges — a spec that older optocouplers struggle to meet. Rise and fall times of 15ns and 8ns respectively confirm the output stage can slew the gate capacitance without excessive cross-conduction.
Output drive and supply range
The output stage sources and sinks 2A each (high/low), with a peak capability of 2.5A. The supply range of 15V to 30V on the output side gives headroom for driving +15V/-5V or +20V gate rails common in industrial drives. The input side uses a typical forward voltage of 1.55V at up to 20mA forward current, compatible with 3.3V or 5V logic outputs through a series resistor.
Package and approvals
The 8-SMD Gull Wing package occupies a standard footprint and is approved by cUR, UR, and VDE agencies, which simplifies the safety certification process for end equipment. The part carries RoHS compliance per the lifecycle record.
