Through-hole gate driver for industrial power stages
The Toshiba TLP351(F) is a single-channel gate drive optocoupler in an 8-DIP through-hole package, designed to drive IGBTs and power MOSFETs in motor drives, inverters, and industrial power supplies. It provides 3750Vrms isolation between the input LED and output driver, with a peak output current of 600mA to handle gate charge.
Package and mounting
The 600mA peak output is enough to drive a medium IGBT or MOSFET gate without an external booster — think 30A-class switches in a motor drive. Rise and fall times of 50ns typ keep switching losses low, but the 700ns max propagation delay means you budget for dead-time in the PWM loop. The 10kV/µs CMTI is the spec that matters in a half-bridge: if the high-side switch sees a fast dv/dt, this opto won't latch or glitch the gate signal. Output supply range of 10V to 30V covers standard gate drive rails — 15V or 24V common in industrial drives.
Field-fit and handling
The 8-DIP through-hole package is a field-swap favourite — no hot-air station needed, just a desoldering pump or solder wick. The 1.55V forward voltage and 20mA max LED current are typical for optocouplers; drive it with a logic-level signal through a current-limiting resistor, same as any LED.
