What this optocoupler brings to an isolated interface
The Toshiba TLP2719(E is a single-channel, DC-input optocoupler with an open-collector output, rated for 1MBd data rate and 5000Vrms isolation. It fits digital isolation in industrial PLCs, motor-drive I/O, and inverter gate-drive interfaces where you need to pass a logic-level signal across a high-voltage barrier without coupling noise back into the control side.
The 5000Vrms isolation rating is the spec that decides whether this part works in a 230VAC motor-drive or a 400V inverter bus. It provides reinforced insulation for safety-agency compliance (IEC 60950-1 / IEC 62368-1) in equipment where the control and power stages must be galvanically separated. For a 12V or 24V industrial sensor interface, the 4.5V to 20V supply range lets you run the output side directly off the same rail as the PLC input module — no extra regulator needed.
1MBd data rate and 800ns propagation delay — timing budget check
At 1MBd and 800ns max propagation delay, this optocoupler handles PLC digital inputs and inverter fault signals.
Open-collector output — resistor sizing
The open-collector output sinks up to 8 mA per channel. For a 5V logic interface, a 1kΩ pull-up to 5V gives a clean 5 mA sink — well inside the rating. At 24V, a 3.3kΩ pull-up keeps the sink current under 8 mA. The 25mA max LED forward current gives enough headroom to drive the input from a 3.3V or 5V logic output through a series resistor (typically 330Ω for 5V).
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 6-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm body width) with 7.62mm creepage distance, the TLP2719(E) suits surface-mount assembly on standard FR4.
