Isolation and CTR for your BOM
The TLP185(GR-TPL,SE) delivers 3750Vrms galvanic isolation — enough for reinforced insulation in industrial I/O modules, PLC digital inputs, and motor-drive feedback paths where the primary side must stay separate from the 24V field bus. Current transfer ratio spans 100% to 300% at 5mA forward current, so the output transistor saturates reliably even when the LED ages or the ambient temperature climbs. The 300mV max Vce(sat) keeps the logic-side voltage drop low enough to drive a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller input without a buffer.
Speed and drive margins
Typical rise and fall times are 2µs and 3µs respectively, with turn-on and turn-off both at 3µs. That is fast enough for 10–100 kHz switching in relay drivers, AC mains zero-cross detectors, and general-purpose signal isolation — but not for high-speed digital buses like I²C or SPI. Output transistor is rated for 80V and 50mA continuous, so it can directly drive a small relay coil or a MOSFET gate through a series resistor without an extra transistor stage.
Package and temperature range
Housed in a 6-SOIC with only 4 populated leads (the two centre pins are omitted for creepage distance), the TLP185(GR-TPL,SE) saves board area compared to an 8-pin DIP or 8-SOIC. The 0.173-inch body width (4.40mm) fits standard SOIC footprints — no special land pattern needed. Operating temperature from -55°C to 110°C covers cold-start in outdoor cabinets and the heat rise inside a sealed motor junction box. The 1.25V typical forward voltage at 5mA is compatible with 3.3V logic outputs directly.
Sourcing and compliance
ROHS3 compliant, no exemptions. Supplied in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) for pick-and-place or prototype kitting. Sourced to order against your BOM quantity.
