What this 3.3 V LDO brings to the bench
The Texas Instruments LM1084IS-3.3/NOPB is a 5 A fixed-output low-dropout regulator in a TO-263-3 (DDPAK) surface-mount package. It delivers a regulated 3.3 V rail from an input up to 27 V, with a maximum dropout of 1.5 V at the full 5 A load. The 72 dB PSRR at 120 Hz tells you it will clean up 120 Hz ripple from a rectified supply — useful when you are feeding a sensitive analog or digital rail. Over-current and over-temperature protection are built in, so a shorted load on the output won't cascade into a fire drill.
Temperature range and where it fits
Rated for -40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature, this part is at home in industrial enclosures, engine-bay electronics, or outdoor telecom gear. The TO-263 package has a large exposed pad that transfers heat to the PCB copper — plan a decent thermal land and some vias if you are pulling close to 5 A continuously at high ambient.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The LM1084IS-3.3/NOPB is listed as active with no end-of-life notice. ROHS3 compliant. No official replacement has been announced, so this is the current production part for new designs and repair spares.
