What a 1.5SMC TVS diode does on a board
The 1.5SMC9.1CA R7G is a bidirectional transient voltage suppressor — the CA suffix marks the complementary (bidirectional) polarity variant in the 1.5SMC series. The 7.78 V reverse standoff rating sets the continuous working voltage the line can sit at without the TVS conducting — below this the device stays invisible to normal operation.
Clamping performance and the 1.5 kW rating
The clamping voltage of 13.4 V at the 117 A peak current is what the downstream IC actually sees during a fault; the margin between the 7.78 V standoff and the 13.4 V clamp gives the protected circuit room to survive without false triggering.
DO-214AB SMC package and board assembly
Tape-and-reel packaging is the standard orientation for high-volume SMT line feeding; verify the paste mask matches the SMC footprint and that the thermal pad under the body has adequate vias to the ground plane if the application demands repeated transients — the 150 °C maximum junction temperature is the ceiling, and repeated clamping events heat the junction through the lead-frame.
