The 1.5SMC51A R7G: That 48.5 V minimum breakdown voltage gives a guard band above the standoff — a 48 V nominal bus sees the TVS start conducting around 49 V, clamping hard before the downstream silicon sees a destructive overvoltage.
The copper pad area under the cathode tab sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance — a solid pour on the PCB top layer pulls heat from the 1500 W pulse.
