Surge rating and protection envelope
The 1.5SMC47CA R7G: Rated for 1500 W peak pulse power under the 10/1000 µs waveform — this is the energy the diode absorbs in a single surge event before the junction temperature exceeds the safe operating area. For a 40.2 V reverse standoff rail, the 64.8 V clamping voltage at 24 A peak pulse current means a 24 V margin between the protected rail and the clamp point, which keeps downstream components inside their voltage rating during a transient. Single bidirectional channel clamps both polarities with one device, saving board area versus two unidirectional diodes in anti-series. The symmetrical breakdown at 44.7 V minimum suits AC signal lines or bipolar supply rails where the transient can swing either direction.
Package and thermal integration
The junction-to-ambient thermal resistance depends on the pad area under the tab; a 25 mm² copper pad on a standard FR-4 board keeps the junction below 150 °C during repetitive surge events at 25 °C ambient.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Supplied in Tape & Reel packaging (standard 7-inch reel for the SMC package) with Cut Tape option for prototyping. The R7G suffix denotes the reel quantity and packaging code — verify the reel count against the BOM volume at quote time.
