Pulse current and thermal reality at 34 A Ipp
The 34 A peak pulse current is specified with a 10/1000 µs exponential waveform — this is the standard telecom surge shape. For shorter pulses (8/20 µs, common in ESD or lightning indirect strikes), the peak current capability is significantly higher because the energy deposited into the junction is lower. In a 85°C enclosure, expect roughly 75% of that rating, so the effective clamp margin narrows.
