1.5 kW Zener TVS for telecom line protection
The 1.5SMC24A V7G is a Zener-type transient voltage suppressor from Taiwan Semiconductor's 1.5SMC series, rated for 1500 W peak pulse power dissipation (10/1000 µs waveform). It clamps transients on a 20.5 V nominal rail — the reverse standoff voltage — and breaks down at 22.8 V minimum, holding the clamp at 33.2 V max while conducting 47 A peak pulse current. The 33.2 V clamping ceiling means downstream ICs on a 24 V telecom bus see the surge limited below their abs-max rating, provided the trace inductance between the TVS and the protected device is kept short — a few nH of stray inductance adds a voltage spike on top of the clamp that eats into the margin. It is designated for Telecom applications, where the 10/1000 µs pulse shape matches the ITU-T K.20 / K.21 surge waveform for line-card protection. The 1500 W rating covers the primary-side surge before the PTC or fuse clears.

The cathode band is marked on the body — orientation is unambiguous for hand placement or pick-and-place. No lab bench needed for rework; a hot-air station at 260 °C peak per JEDEC MSL level 1 profile swaps it cleanly. At 150 °C the leakage current rises significantly — the 20.5 V standoff voltage should be derated if the ambient near the part exceeds 85 °C.
