Clamping voltage and pulse current — what they mean for the rail
With a 30.6V maximum clamping voltage at 51A peak pulse current, this TVS clamps a 18.8V nominal rail (the standoff voltage) to under 31V during a surge. That margin keeps downstream devices rated at 36V or higher safe — a 24V bus or 12V-to-24V converter output sees the clamp engage well before the silicon limit. The 1500W peak pulse power rating is measured with a 10/1000 µs exponential waveform — the standard telecom and industrial surge test. For shorter pulses (8/20 µs, common in ESD testing), the device can absorb significantly higher peak current, but the 10/1000 µs figure is the one to use for mains-coupled transient coordination.
