The 1.5SMC22CA M6G: The bidirectional construction (one device, two back-to-back Zener junctions) means polarity does not matter — it clips positive and negative surges symmetrically. That simplifies BOM placement on AC-coupled or floating signal lines where the polarity relative to ground is not fixed.

Breakdown voltage (min) is 20.9 V, so the device starts conducting in avalanche at roughly 21 V and hard-clamps at 30.6 V. The 18.8 V standoff rating is the maximum continuous DC voltage the TVS can sit across without degrading — a 15 V rail with 10 % tolerance (16.5 V max) stays well below that threshold. It is rated for the full 1500 W pulse without derating at 25 °C ambient; above 25 °C the peak power must be derated per the thermal impedance curve.
