Peak pulse power and clamping for telecom bus protection
The 1.5SMC150A V7G is a 1500W (1.5kW) peak pulse power Zener TVS diode from Taiwan Semiconductor Corporation, designed to clamp transients on telecom lines. Its 128V reverse standoff voltage sits below the nominal bus voltage, so the diode stays out of circuit until a surge pushes the line above the 143V minimum breakdown threshold. At that point it clamps at 207V maximum, shunting up to 7.6A of the 10/1000µs surge waveform to ground. The 1500W rating is the peak pulse power the device can absorb for the standard 10/1000µs waveform — a common telecom surge shape per GR-1089 and ITU-T K.20/K.21. For shorter pulses the peak power capability is higher; for longer or repetitive surges the junction temperature must stay within the -55°C to 150°C operating range.
Unidirectional clamping in a DO-214AB footprint
This is a single-channel unidirectional TVS, meaning it protects one signal or power rail against positive-going transients relative to ground. The DO-214AB (SMC) package is a standard surface-mount footprint with a large copper tab on the cathode side — the PCB layout should connect that tab to the ground plane with a low-inductance via cluster to keep the clamping voltage from rising above the 207V spec due to trace inductance. No power line protection function is claimed — this is a transient suppressor, not a power rail clamp with foldback or crowbar capability.
