Voltage thresholds and the clamping decision
The 1.5SMC12A V7G: The reverse standoff voltage is 10.2 V — the device draws negligible leakage below this level, so it sits across a 10 V or 12 V rail without loading it. Breakdown occurs at 11.4 V minimum, and the clamping voltage is capped at 16.7 V at the rated 94 A peak pulse current — the 6.5 V window between standoff and clamp defines the protection margin for the downstream components.
Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, it supports reflow soldering and occupies a standard footprint for 1500 W TVS diodes — a direct drop-in for many existing SMC layouts.
