The 1.5SMC12A M6G: That 1.5kW rating means it clamps a 94A surge at 16.7V — enough to protect a 10.2V rail from inductive kickback or lightning-induced transients without the part self-destructing on the first hit.
Voltage window and clamping behaviour
Reverse standoff voltage is 10.2V typical — the rail voltage the diode leaves alone during normal operation. Breakdown starts at 11.4V minimum, and the clamping voltage peaks at 16.7V at the full 94A peak pulse current. That 6.5V window between standoff and clamp gives the protected circuit a defined transient budget: the rail sees no more than 16.7V before the TVS shunts the surge to ground. The 1500W rating is derated above 25°C ambient per the standard thermal derating curve, but the DO-214AB body dissipates the pulse energy into the PCB copper without a heatsink.
Board-fit and storage note
Surface-mount DO-214AB (SMC) package — the same footprint as standard SMC diodes, so it drops into existing layouts without a pad revision. Store the reels in dry conditions per the moisture sensitivity level on the reel label; the DO-214AB body is not hermetic and absorbs humidity over time.
