The DO-201AA axial package (also known as DO-27) is through-hole, which means it survives rework cycles well — the leads take the heat, not the die. Pin 1 is the cathode band; orientation is unambiguous under a hot-air station or wave solder.
For a 170V DC bus, that clamp gives about 60% headroom above the rail — enough margin for most downstream semiconductors rated at 300V or higher. The 5.7A peak pulse current is the current the diode shunts at the clamp voltage. In a real fault, the source impedance determines the actual current; this rating confirms the diode can handle the full 1500W pulse without failing short.
