The Z0107MUF is a logic-level sensitive-gate triac from STMicroelectronics, rated for 600 V off-state voltage and 1 A RMS on-state current. The 5 mA maximum gate trigger current means a microcontroller output or a low-current optocoupler can fire it directly — no driver transistor needed on the BOM.
Sensitive gate: what the 5 mA Igt means for the drive circuit
The 5 mA maximum gate trigger current (Igt) at 1.3 V maximum gate trigger voltage (Vgt) puts this part in the logic-level sensitive-gate class. A standard triac might need 10–50 mA Igt, which often forces a driver transistor or a higher-current optocoupler. Here, a 5 V GPIO with a 330 Ω series resistor delivers the gate current comfortably. The 10 mA maximum holding current (Ih) ensures the triac latches on once triggered and does not drop out on low-load conditions like a small relay coil or LED driver.
Surge capability and thermal budget
Non-repetitive surge current (Itsm) is rated 8 A at 50 Hz and 8.5 A at 60 Hz — enough to handle inrush from a 100 W incandescent lamp or a small motor start without exceeding the junction rating.
