Logic-level triac for low-power AC switching
The STMicroelectronics Z0107MA 2AL2 is a logic-sensitive gate triac rated for 1 A RMS continuous on-state current and 600 V off-state voltage. It is designed for direct triggering from low-voltage logic circuits, microcontrollers, or other low-power drive sources, with a maximum gate trigger current of 5 mA and a maximum gate trigger voltage of 1.3 V. The 1 A RMS rating suits small AC loads such as relays, solenoids, valves, and incandescent lamps in 120 VAC or 230 VAC line applications. The 600 V off-state capability provides ample margin for 230 VAC mains switching, absorbing line transients without avalanche failure.
Surge handling and thermal limits
Non-repetitive surge current is rated at 8 A for 50 Hz and 8.5 A for 60 Hz (Itsm), giving the device the ability to handle capacitor inrush or lamp cold-start surges without exceeding the junction temperature limit. Holding current is specified at 10 mA maximum. This means the triac will reliably latch on once triggered and will commutate off only when the load current drops below this threshold near the zero-crossing of the AC waveform. It is compatible with loads that draw a few tens of milliamps in the on-state.
The Z0107MA 2AL2 is housed in a TO-226-3 / TO-92-3 (TO-226AA) through-hole package with formed leads, also referred to as the supplier device package TO-92-3. The three-lead layout follows the standard triac pinout: main terminal 1 (MT1), main terminal 2 (MT2), and gate (G). The formed leads allow direct insertion into a PCB with standard 0.1-inch pitch holes. Available in Cut Tape (CT) and Tape & Box (TB) packaging options. The through-hole format is well-suited for prototyping, low-volume production, and applications where vibration resistance is not a primary concern. For automated assembly, the Tape & Box option feeds into radial insertion machines.
